After having risen steadily over the past decade due to restrictions on timber harvesting in the Pacific Northwest, lumber prices have experienced a roller coaster in recent years due to the Covid pandemic supply chain issues and, more recently, inflation, making the framing of a home a costly component of building construction projects. The cost of framing materials depends on the material you choose, lumber or steel.Ī typical 2,000-square-foot home uses almost 16,000 board feet of lumber and 6,000 square feet of structural panels like plywood. ![]() Read more about possibilities for roof frames in your build. Then comes the sheathing to add more protection to the frame – and finally, the roof. Next, there are wall studs and ceiling and floor joists about every 16 or 24 inches along the floor. If your home has more than one level, then it’s built one story at a time, with each floor serving as a platform for the one above it. The most popular method is platform-frame construction, in which walls sit on top of subflooring. Once your home’s foundation is completed, it’s time to start framing. There are a lot of details involved in framing a house that can affect the cost, some you can control, some you probably can’t. If you’re thinking about building a dream house like this Modern Farmhouse style home, you’ll surely be concerned about cost, which includes framing costs.

![]() Instead of doing only one voice training session for DD3 to get used to my voice, I did all four of them. My interest in uncompressed audio files for use on DD3 skyrocketed yesterday when I received DD3 and installed it. See the topic "Re: Current status of speech to text?". ![]() Another thread documents my travails in that effort. I've had a lot of excellent service from Sony recorders, but now I need a Mac-compatible file for DD3. That's why I looked and finally found a Sony recorder that apparently produces a Mac-compatible uncompressed audio file. Sony software on Windows will convert my current Sony recorder's files to MP3, but I can't use them on DD3 for the Mac. Are they trying to protect DNSv12? I don't know. Dragon Dictate 3 for the Mac will not accept MP3 files! It's as though they are trying to maintain a distance between Windows and Mac, but I'm not sure of the reason. That's right and I would have tried it, but there is a small detail that bugs me to this day. Given my past experience, I'm reasonably optimistic about the file transfer, but we'll never know for sure about the electronic transcription until we try it. It will probably be the end of the week before all the pieces arrive so I can try DragonDictate 3, but I definitely will let you know when I have some results to report. Rather than repeat that here, you can just look at it there. There's a thread here ("Re: Current status of speech to text?") that describes my disillusioning experience trying to use DNSv12 on Windows7 running on VMware to electronically transcribe speech to text in a Windows environment. ![]() Sony software on Windows7 will play it back so I can manually transcribe it to a document on my computer. After the recording is finished, I plug in a USB cord and move a copy of the file from the Sony recorder to a folder on Windows7. That's what I do now using Sony recorders and Sony software to play back my speech on my computer. Instead of artwork, the Music app shows the name of the album.Moving an audio file from the recorder to the computer is something with which I'm very familiar. This happened to me recently, on both my iPhone and iPod touch, and I took a screenshot on my iPhone to show what it looks like (see below). Q: I have album artwork for all of my music files, and every now and then the artwork disappears on my iPhone or iPad. It could work well with spoken-word recordings, but if you have very noisy music, a lot of the music gets removed along with the noise. The problem with the latter feature is that if there’s a lot of noise, SoundSoap makes the music sound thin. This feature can “learn” the type of noise in your recordings, and eliminate it. If your LPs are in fairly good shape, the Remove Click & Crackle feature might be sufficient, but if you are digitizing very old recordings that have lots of noise, the Noise Reduction feature can be useful. The second, the “Noise Reduction” feature gets rid of hiss and static. The first is the “Remove Click & Crackle” feature, which gets rid of the most egregious sounds that arise from damaged LPs. SoundSoap offers two methods of noise reduction. SoundSoap claims to “Clean unwanted room noise, hiss, electrical hum, rumble, clicks, crackles, pops, and other background noises,” and, in my tests, it does a fairly good job of this, but only on recordings without too much noise. SoundSoap can remove a lot of noise from digitized LPs, if your recordings aren’t in poor condition. ![]() “Zoom out to the lion wearing a dark suit in an office room.” “The camera zooms into the lion's face, inside the office.” “A lion runs on top of the office desks.” “We are in an office room with empty desks.” “The camera zooms into one of the many windows.” “Crash zoom towards a futuristic skyscraper.” “The ocean and the coastline of a futuristic city.” “The camera points up to the sky through the water.” “We follow the blue fish as it swims in the dark ocean.” “The screen behind the astronaut displays fish swimming in the sea.” ![]() “The camera moves beyond the astronaut and looks at the screen.” “The astronaut leaves the keyboard and walks away.” “The astronaut leaves the keyboard and walks to the left.” “The camera moves away from the astronaut.” “The astronaut is typing in the keyboard.” “The camera moves forward until showing an astronaut in the blue room.” “The camera gets inside the alien spaceship.” “An alien spaceship arrives to the futuristic city.” To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time a paper studies generating videos from such time-variable prompts.įurthermore, we observed that our video encoder-decoder outperformed all per-frame baselines currently used in the literature on both spatio-temporal quality and number of tokens per video. When compared to prior video generation methods, we observed that Phenaki could generate arbitrarily long videos conditioned on an open-domain sequence of prompts in the form of time-variable text, or a story. To address the data issues, we demonstrate that joint training on a large corpus of image-text pairs and a smaller number of video-text examples can result in generalization beyond what is available in the video datasets alone. To address the first two issues, Phenaki leverages its two main components:Īn encoder-decoder model that compresses videos to discrete embeddings, or tokens, with a tokenizer that can work with variable-length videos thanks to its use of causal attention in time.Ī transformer model that translates text embeddings to video tokens: we use a bi-directional masked transformer conditioned on pre-computed text tokens to generate video tokens from text, which are subsequently de-tokenized to create the actual video. Generating videos from text is particularly challenging due to various factors, such as high computational cost, variable video lengths, and limited availability of high quality text-video data. We present Phenaki, a model that can synthesize realistic videos from textual prompt sequences. ![]() Lattice designed the Nexus platform to deliver three levels of innovation: circuit, architecture, and solutions. The average life span of a sloth in the wild is between 10 and 20 years. They may not be the fastest creatures in the world, but they certainly make up for it with their charm! Sloth Lifespan This also helps them stay hidden from predators in the treetops! Sloths may be small, but they have big personalities and are beloved by many. Sloths’ slow lifestyles make them well adapted to their habitats they are able to conserve energy by staying still for extended periods of time while they wait for food to come within reach. They have long arms and legs, a short neck, and a round head with small ears. Sloths are relatively small animals, typically growing between approximately 15 – 25 inches in length. It is also important to ensure your sloth has access to plenty of fresh water so they can stay hydrated! Sloths will only drink from puddles and streams in the wild, so it is important to provide them with a shallow bowl of water to drink from in captivity. It is important to remember that sloths have very slow digestive rates they should not be fed large quantities at one time, but rather in smaller portions throughout the day. In captivity, sloths can be fed a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables (such as apples, bananas, carrots, and leafy greens), as well as commercial primate diets that are specifically designed for sloths. They are also known to supplement this diet with small animals such as frogs or lizards. Sloths in the wild subsist on a diet primarily of leaves, shoots, and bark from trees. ![]() Sloths also prefer to stay close to water sources so they can easily hydrate themselves. Sloths are very particular about where they live they usually choose trees that have thick canopies with plenty of leaves for protection from the sun, as well as branches that provide easy access to food. When it’s time to move from one tree to another (or if they need to escape predators), sloths will climb down and use their long claws to help them move slowly but efficiently across the ground. Despite living in trees for most of their lives, sloths actually spend about half of their time on the ground – walking or just lying around. Sloths like to stay close to the ground when they’re not hanging upside down from tree branches, so their homes usually contain plenty of low shrubs and bushes for them to curl up into during the day. They are most commonly found in tropical rainforests, but they also live in dry deciduous forests, swampy areas and even high-altitude cloud forests. Sloths inhabit a variety of habitats in Central and South America. They move very slowly – even when walking on the ground – so much so that algae is able to grow in patches on their coats! Despite this slow pace, sloths are actually quite agile climbers and swimmers, thanks to their powerful arms and long claws. Sloths spend most of their time hanging upside down from tree branches, where they will often remain motionless for hours at a time while they feed on leaves or sleep. The fur of the sloth is thick and coarse and can be grayish or yellowish-brown in color. He brings a unique and important contribution to our understanding of the nature of individual and organizational change, particularly through his unique perspectives on Conversational Leadership. In organizational settings, using poetry and thoughtful commentary, he illustrates how we can foster qualities of courage and engagement qualities needed if we are to respond to today’s call for increased creativity and adaptability in the workplace. In spring of 2008 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Neumann College, Pennsylvania. His life as a poet has created a readership and listenership in three normally mutually exclusive areas: the literate world of readings that most poets inhabit, the psychological and theological worlds of philosophical enquiry and the world of vocation, work and organizational leadership.Īn Associate Fellow at Said Business School at the University of Oxford, he is one of the few poets to take his perspectives on creativity into the field of organizational development, where he works with many European, American and international companies.
